Charles Wright – You Gotta Know Whatcha Doin’
by King Shing-a-ling on Apr.11, 2012, under Records
A Mississippi boy moves out to LA to lay down the Funk Soul and Rock n Roll and hooks up with no other than El Capitan Daryl Dragon, of Captain & Tennille. Over the course of the Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, many other notable players also help laydown the groove including Bobby Womack, James Carmichae, and Houstons own King of Freak Leon Haywood. And not to be forgotten the members, drummer James Gadson, bassist Melvin Dunlap, trombonist Ray Jackson, and both guitarists Al McKay and Benorce Blackmon, would play on several Dyke & the Blazers charting singles, including “We Got More Soul” (1969) and “Let a Woman Be a Woman, Let a Man Be a Man” (1969).

Tina & Ike – Nutbush City Limits
by King Shing-a-ling on Feb.19, 2012, under Records
Tina belts out tells about her old hometown Nutbush, TN over the fuzzed out guitar rifts and spacey synths laid down by Ike. Although they aint got “N0 Whiskey For Sale” in Nutbush, off of Highway Nineteen they know how to cook up one Extra Saucy and Soulful Diva.

Nancy Wilson – Uptight

Grab some Chicken & booze and Lets Boogaloo!!!
Scored this gem from my good friends at Juno.co.uk. Every house hold should have at least one copy just in case of an emergency boogaloo. And as always in the event of an emergency boogaloo situation remember to Keep Calm and Boogaloo Along.

by King Shing-a-ling on Oct.12, 2011, under Records
Many others have tried to capture the raw uncut emotion of Fever but no one matches this original recording by Little Willie John on King Records 1958, although I’ve got to say Peggy Lee gave it a doggone good try and even added her own twist with the additional verses beginning ”Romeo loved Juliet,” and “Captain Smith and Pocahontas”. This is the first of many Little Willie John 45′s we have to post so stay tuned my friends.

The Wailers – Hang Up
by King Shing-a-ling on Aug.17, 2011, under Records
The Wailer’s laid down this freaked out fuzzbuzz track on the Etiquette label back in 1965. The Wailer’s who were also know as the Fabulous Wailers or the Original wailers hailed from the Pacific North West and no doubt influenced every garage band who ever breathed. I picked up a re-issue of this garage gem in Nashville at a little Record store just outside of downtown.
Enjoy

Gary Walker – You Don’t Love Me
by King Shing-a-ling on Jul.03, 2011, under Records
Bo Diddley’s She’s Fine, She’s Mine got a fuzzed out face lift when Gary Walker got ahold of a guitar. Gary Walker played drums for The Standells when they toured the UK in 1964 and met Brian Jones who persuaded him that he should move to London. Once back in L.A Walker met up with a few other musicians and decided to hop across the pond and work on a few diddies as The Walker Brothers. Some how in the midst of all this he dished out a few hot singles of his own, like this fine gem You Don’t Love Me.

Buddy Merrill – The Sherk
by King Shing-a-ling on Jun.28, 2011, under Records
Love this cool little James Bond meets the Surf tune composed and performed by Buddy Merrill. Buddy joined the Lawrence Welk Show at age 19 and became well know for his multi-tracking recording style. Man id love to see Dick Dale and Buddy Merrill belt out a few battle riffs. Enjoy
